Cancer Explained

What is the main risk factor for bladder cancer?

Using tobacco, especially smoking cigarettes, is a major risk factor for bladder cancer. A risk factor is anything that raises the chance of getting a disease.

Having a risk factor does not mean that you will get bladder cancer, and not having risk factors does not mean that you will not. There are other risk factors as well, and there are steps that may help lower your risk.

Your healthcare team is the best source of information about the risk factors that apply to you and what you can do about them.
