What was said, and what was not
Kevin Keegan was one of only four Englishmen to win the Ballon d'Or. He captained and coached England, and won the European Cup with Liverpool.

How spread happens, and where
NCI describes metastasis as a sequence rather than a single event. Cancer cells invade nearby normal tissue. They push through the wall of a lymph node or a blood vessel. They travel in the lymphatic system or the bloodstream. They stop in small vessels somewhere distant, cross into the surrounding tissue, and grow into a tiny tumor. Then they trigger new blood vessels to form, which feeds further growth.
Most cells attempting this die along the way. Some survive every step. NCI adds that metastatic cells can also lie inactive at a distant site for many years before growing again, if they ever do.
Where they land is not random. The most common sites overall are bone, liver, and lung. Prostate cancer tends toward the adrenal gland, bone, liver, and lung. Breast cancer toward bone, brain, liver, and lung. Colon cancer toward the liver, lung, and peritoneum. Thyroid cancer toward bone, liver, and lung.
Knowing the origin therefore tells a team where to look. Knowing only the number does not.
Why general advice would mislead here
Different cancers have different warning signs, different risk factors, and different screening tests. Some cause no early symptoms at all. Some have organized screening programs for particular groups; most do not.
